Motion Design

2D animation, 3D animation, rotoscoping, visual effects

This was a fun collaboration with my teenage son! He needed a music video to go with the opening song for our Halloween light show. The song is Reconnect by Knife Party, and the graphics were partly purchased, partly made by me.

My friend Cathy made this poster for an Oktoberfest event at a local outdoor mall. I offered to animate it, and they loved it. It sure turned out cute!

For this assignment we were asked to create an introduction to our reel. We were given total freedom, just had to keep it about 5 seconds long. The text was hand drawn in Procreate and converted to vector in Illustrator. All texturing, compositing, and animation was done in After Effects.

For this assignment we chose an artist and three of their songs. We had to create a 5-10 second text-based experimental animation for each song inspired by the lyrics. I chose Come Undone, Electric Barbarella, and Planet Earth by Duran Duran. I used After Effects for most of it and Photoshop to create the cloud background and edit the sunglasses on the first song.

Just a relaxing looping animation I made with some of my previous illustrations.

For this class assignment we were asked to make a commercial for Coke, using their Real Magic slogan as a jumping off point. All the elements were hand drawn in Procreate, Photoshop, and Illustrator, and then animated and composited in After Effects.

This student project was a collaboration with Cathy B Design. She provided the 2D illustrations (skaters and end logo) and I created and I created the 3D scene (bee, Christmas tree, skating environment) while keeping the look on brand. The 3D animation was done with Cinema 4D and the 2D graphics and effects were composited in After Effects.

This was one of my first student projects. We were given a variety of vector assets to chose from and used After Effects to create a 2.5D underwater scene.

For this student project we were given 2D and video assets, and asked to construct an outer-space scene of an abandoned space-ship. I used After Effects for all compositing and animation.

This personal project was another collaboration with Cathy B Design. She created the Holiday illustration for a local business and I used After Effects to bring it to life. The business owner sent this as an animated GIF to his clients in his Holiday email.

For this student project, I was tasked to create a “motion bible” for a brand of my choosing. We were to follow the Brand’s Style Guide and create a series of animations in accordance with the brand style. I used Illustrator, C4D, and After Effects.

For this student project we were asked to choose a show or movie and re-create 15-30 seconds of the opening title sequence. I chose to recreate "Dichos". A high concept series about Latin American phrases and how they translate into english. The original series was produced by Mary Angélica Molina & Emma Ramos and features some of NYC's top comedic talent. I added a few extra effects to make it my own.

For this student project, we were given a video of a former student and some music. Our assignment was to use time-remapping to give the video a choppy look and then rotoscope over the clip. I used photoshop for the rotoscoping and then After Effects for the compositing.

For this student project we were asked to create a Rube Goldberg machine using the dynamics feature of Cinema 4D. We were asked to use 3 different camera angles and then composite everything in After Effects

Another awesome collaboration with my friend Cathy Richardson. A simple logo animation for the Empty Bowls project. She designed the logo and I made it move using some frame-by-frame and After Effects

This commercial for a local Austin business was a semester-long group project (3 students per group). We chose a business, created storyboards, used C4d to create the environment, put together the SFX, music, and VO, created the elements, and put it all together in AE. I was the design lead on this project and created the storyboard and 2d assets, rigged the c4d cameras, animated the bats, and did the final texturing and polish. I was fortunate to have amazing teammates (Jerel Heritage and Veronical Cancel) and a very talented voice actress friend (Carrie Farris) who did the VO. This project was hard work, but such a joy to do!

For this assignment we had to create a commercial for the Beats Pill (version 1.0). I used C4D to model the speaker and do all the camera work. Then the renders were put together in After Effects, where I added text, music, and gave it a nice polish.

We worked as a team for this student Explainer Video project. We were given the script, voice over, and design guidelines (color and font). I had the role of creative director. I chose the music, created the illustrations, and guided the overall design of the video. The animation was split amongst two other classmates (Edward Barkley and John-Mark Hunter) and myself.

This was a personal project made for one of my favorite charities, run by a friend of mine. My hope is that anyone watching this will be moved to donate to this wonderful cause.

For this school assignment we were asked to create an opening title sequence for a made-up movie about outer space. The asteroid and planet materials were provided and the set was created in Cinema 4D. The black hole and lighting effects were created and composited in After Effects.

For this assignment we were asked to create a travel bumper, for the state of our choosing, in a low-poly vintage postcard style. The idea is that the bumper would play at the end of a “Come visit our state” commercial. All assests were built from scratch in Cinema 4D and composited in After Effects.
